I'm trying a new and bold experiment--Restorative yoga over Zoom! I didn't know whether such a thing could work, as I assumed that I needed to be in the room with my students in order to make sure everyone was well-supported, and to hold space for a relaxing and meditative experience. I thought it might not go well via cyberspace, but to my surprise and delight, it was a great success--and YOU can join in from wherever you are!
Our first R&R class happened this past Wednesday evening, and the feedback I got was that it was JUST what people needed. In our crazy-busy lives, with all of our work and family demands, and with the firehose of media stimulation that we are bombarded with everyday, we all need a little space of sanctuary, a time when we can just let it all go and receive, release, and renew.Â
We live in a world where we zip from one thing to the next, racing just to get it done and check it off our list. R&R yoga is a chance to disconnect from that frantic energy and just let yourself melt into the bliss of being still. It's sacred time that you deserve, and I think you'll find that it's time well-spent.
Restorative yoga is for everyone, no matter what state of fitness your body is in. You don't have to be strong or flexible. We start with a few very gentle movements and stretches to release stuck energy, so you can get the most benefit from the restorative poses, which are all about completely letting go. Â
And, in my R&R class, you also get a "musical massage,"as I serenade you with some beautiful live music--songs I've specially chosen that open the heart and touch the soul.
In order to get the most benefit from this class:
make sure you log in on time, so we can enjoy uninterrupted time together.Â
Gather whatever supportive props you have beforehand. Suggested:Â 2-4 blankets, 2 blocks, a strap, several pillows and/or a bolster, a towel (to make a neck support), and a comfortable but firm place to lie down.
Additional but optional: a candle, eye pillow, hot water bottle or microwaved warm compress, and a folding chair.
make sure the room is comfortably warm, with dim lighting to encourage total relaxation.
Take time beforehand to transform your space into a sanctuary where you will not be disturbed. This is time for YOU!
